Pupil Laboratory: People

Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Helmut Wilhelm, clinically working neuro-ophthalmologist, scientific interest pupil research, especially pupil disorders, clinical applications of pupillography. Coordinating and coaching the pupil research team. Personal fields of resarch: Functional organisation of the pupillary light reflex pathways, differentiation of different optic neuropathies by means of pupillography, pupil perimetry. Methods: Analization of pupillary function in patients with lesions of the afferent optic pathways by means of pupillography and pupil perimetry, modelling.

Hobbies
Photography, likes to arrange slide shows; Scandinavian literature, music and history, special interest: Faroe islands, member of Deutsch-Färöischer Freundeskreis, travelling, especially by bicycle, hiking, reading (crime stories, preferably in Swedish). Languages: Swedish, "Scandinavian" (which is a Swedish-Norwegian-Danish blend) and English, was taught Latin at the Grammar School, but forgot most of it. Member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW).

Dr. med. Barbara Wilhelm, Special research interests within pupil investigation are spontaneous pupillary oscillations reflecting the level of central nervous activity, their physiological and anatomical background and mechanisms modulating the oscillations. During the past years development and standardization of the Pupillographic Sleepiness Test and introduction of the method into German sleep medicine. Member of the German Sleep Medical Society (DGSM) and the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS). "The spontaneous pupillary oscillations described here are found in human subjects when the day's ordinary wear and tear makes them feel tired." (Irene Lowenfeld, The Pupil, 1993)

Hobbies
Lyric poetry, participation in anthologies (Edition L: Eigentlich einsam, Nacht lichter als der Tag, Unterm Fuß zerrinnen euch die Orte etc). Reading (favorite: scandinavian literature). Travelling (especially Sweden and Norway, but also warm places like Florida). Snorkeling. Languages: English and Swedish. Member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW).

Dipl.-Phys. Holger Lüdtke, Physicist. Programming, statistics, models of the pupil, automated analysis of pupillograms, extraction of new parameters (especially pupillographic sleepiness test).
